Recorded Yerevan, Armenia. June 2025.
“Run Free”
Louise: The kernel of this song was born in a tiny, hermetically-sealed practice room in Vienna, days before our departure for Yerevan. I pulled it out as soon as I got to Ponx Studios, and Ben and I started to flesh out lyrics. Meant as a graduation song, “Run Free” is both a commemoration of those elated moments we look back on so fondly as the years wear on, and a deep wish for the continued freedom of youth as the reality of adulthood starts to set in.

“I Can Never Die”
Ben: Louise had just played for me a song she’d written that, in some other era, somewhere, somehow, would have been a hit. Maybe it’ll even be a hit in this time, I don’t know. Jealous and dejected, I sat down at a piano in Vienna and angrily banged out some kind of response chronicling a particularly revelatory time in the warm water at Vesturbæjarlaug.

“Memory Fields”
Ben: I had this little piano thing hanging around forever. I always suspected I had ripped it off from somewhere; at the very least it was too close to “Fields of Green” by Sting for comfort. When it came to life, it ended up really unexpectedly jazzy; I guess it got away from me. Sometimes the song just goes where it wants to go and lord help you if you stand in its way.

“Ghost”
Louise: Sometimes the people closest to us leave us disappointed, and sometimes they just leave us devastated. “Ghost” is my bitter tell-all of a song, in which I share my story of family fallen away. Sometimes the ties that bind haunt us long after our loved ones disappear from view.
